UK skiers heading to the States for best holiday offers
March 25, 2008 by The Editor

Near-record numbers of British skiers are taking advantage of a weak dollar and heading across the Atlantic to enjoy a week or two of winter sports action, it has been reported.
In addition to Canadian holidaymakers crossing the border to hit the slopes in the United States, resorts are reporting that growing numbers of Brits are opting to splash out on a long-haul flight in the belief that they will ultimately be saving money on their holiday.
According to a recent report from Vermont Public Radio (VPR), some resorts have seen between a ten and 12 per cent increase in international visitors so far in 2008, with many staying for more than a week.
Furthermore, the radio station also stated that growing numbers of Eastern European holidaymakers are taking advantage of the large number of special deals currently available in the US rather than stick to the slopes in their region.
These latest reports come soon after travellers were advised of the importance of taking out an adequate travel insurance policy prior to going on a skiing trip.

Brits advised of benefits of annual travel insurance offers
February 22, 2008 by The Editor

Holidaymakers looking for the cheapest travel insurance offer have been advised to look into the benefits of annual cover.
With thousands of Britons set to travel across Europe for Rugby’s Six Nations tournament over the coming weeks, Halifax Travel Insurance has stated that a significant proportion will have neglected to take out an insurance policy, an oversight which could be costly should the worst case scenario materialise.
Paul Birkenhead, senior manager of underwriting for Halifax Travel Insurance, explained: “The main benefit of annual cover is that you only need to take out your policy once a year to be insured for as many trips as you like within a 12 month period, allowing rugby fans to focus all their attention on getting to the game.”
At the same time, the Post Office has advised those holidaymakers hitting the slops to make sure that their insurance policy offers cover for accidents which occur while skiing off-piste.
Going off-piste without such cover could invalidate an average travel insurance policy, the Post Office’s Helen Warburton said.

The low-cost airline Jet2.com has announced that it is still offering flights to some of Europe’s finest ski resorts for as little as £9.99 one-way.
With a number of resorts reporting high snowfall levels this winter, the budget carrier has rolled out its cheap deals across most of its routes from the UK to the continent.
From Leeds Bradford Airport, winter sports enthusiasts can fly to Geneva from £9.99 as well as to Chambery and Salzburg from £19.99.
This higher fare also applies to flights from Manchester and Edinburgh to the French Alpine gateway of Chambery and also from Manchester to the Swiss city of Geneva.
The offer also applies to Jet2’s service between Newcastle and Bergen in Norway, though none of these prices include fuel surcharges and variable card payment fees.
At the same time, low-cost rival Ryanair is also in the middle of promoting its latest offer, with flights across Europe from as little as £3, inclusive of all taxes and charges.

Ski Club offers advice on family holiday deals
February 14, 2008 by The Editor

Families looking to enjoy some winter sports action should look to take advantage of offers outside of school holidays.
That is according to the Ski Club of Great Britain, which has issued its latest advice on getting the most out a winter break.
Holidaymakers looking for the cheapest offer should try and avoid destinations in popular countries such as France and Switzerland, with countries like Bulgaria offering better deals for families, particularly outside of the school holidays.
The Ski Club added that, given that school holiday dates across the continent vary, it is "generally very easy" to book a skiing holiday while avoiding the crowds.
For those travellers without children, the Times has also pointed out that there are some excellent last-minute offers to be had on skiing holidays taken once the school holidays are over, with great deals even available for the French Alps and North America.
